Starting again in 2017

January 4 2017

I am starting my blog again, after 4 years of silence!

Much has happened.  We are empty nest-ers.  In Ukraine, there was political and civil unrest, as well as economic problems.

I also ended up with health problems.  High blood pressure, high cholesterol, and bipolar mania.

So now we are ministering in the US, though we do miss Ukraine!

Plans and goals for 2017
For our ministry:
Raise support for our new ministry at Horizon Education Network in Grand Rapids MI
Move to Grand Rapids this summer
For me personally:
Stay close to God in prayer
Get organized and simplify
Eat Healthy, Exercise, Sleep right, Take meds
Creative hobbies
Finish my capsule wardrobe.  Needed: Winter boots, hat, scarf, gloves; pajamas, khaki skirt, khaki shorts

Spring is here!

It's April 1st, and it is almost 70 degrees F!  It is a beautiful day for a walk!

A week ago, we had a wind storm and it turned quite cold, in the single digits for a few days.  Then we had a few inches of snow, which is gone now of course.

We were planning to spend last week with our team in the Carpathian mountains.  The weather and roads there were quite snowy, so we cancelled the conference.  The kids on our team were majorly disappointed!  We did some fun things here in Odessa - bowling, out for pizza, games, ordering pizza, a sleepover for the teen girls, and a movie night.

So how are you enjoying spring where you are?

It's already March!

February went by so quickly!

Thankfully, it was a good month.  Our daughter received her Temporary Residence Permit, a major hurdle accomplished.

No sickness until the end of the month, when I came down with some sinus/cold stuff for about a week.  Now my throat is sore, uh-oh!

It'll be a busy two and a half months until we leave in May for the US for three months.  Husband and I will be returning, without kids.  That's scary!

Snowy January days

When we got up on Friday, there was a coating on the ground.

When we went to bed on Friday, it was still snowing!  Sometime early Saturday morning it stopped, leaving about 6-8 inches on the ground!

It looks nice, but getting around is difficult!

True friends

*Each friend brings their own identity to the relationship.

*Friends support one another rather than acting as a care takers.

*A true friend honors each friend’s friendship with others.

*A true friend encourages their friend to become the person God wants them to be.

*A true friend views differences as gifts rather than annoyances.

*True friends are honest and truthful.  They want the best for their friend.  While they may need to share hard truths at times, they share humbly in view of their own problems with sin, in order for the other person to grow.

*A true friend will encourage another, without manipulating for their own self interest.

*A true friendship honors and respects the boundaries of each other.

*In a true friendship, wise communication and trust are necessary;  avoiding  gossip, criticism, competitiveness, jealousy, etc.

*A true friend forgives.  Being bitter and keeping a record of wrongs will not be the mark of a true friend.

*True friends have conflicts, but each are willing to take responsibility for their role, instead of blaming others.

*A true friendship will respect and understand differences of opinion, and allows others to make their own decisions.

*True friends will honor, encourage, and love each other.

*A true friend will give you time and space that you need.  They will give you time to pause and reflect before responding.  They won’t interrupt or pressure you.  They will also allow you to choose not to respond without hard feelings.

*A true friend will avoid lying about themselves, their friends, or any circumstances or conflicts they find themselves in.

*In a true friendship, both parties treat each other as they would want to be treated, are quick to apologize and/or to extend forgiveness.

What do you think are the marks of a true friend? What would you add to this list?  Do you think you are a good friend?  In what ways do you think you can improve?

The holidays are over

Well, sort of, anyway.  Here in Ukraine, there is one more holiday - "Old New Year" on Monday.  It is a leftover from when they used a different calendar, but people still celebrate it.

Since we don't celebrate Old New Year, we took our tree down today.  We did pretty good leaving it up until Ukrainian Christmas was over.  I was ready to take it down and get the living room back in order.

The colds and flu are here in Ukraine too.  I started not feeling so well on New Years Eve day.  I felt better over the weekend, and then felt sick again on Tuesday.  Hubby was sick, and dear daughter was fighting a cold the past week.  I've had hardly any energy, just taking down the tree, putting stuff away, cleaning up, and moving stuff around drained me.  I'm trying to eat healthier, and except for the potato chips and some chocolate, I've been doing pretty well!  I'm adding more fresh fruit and veggies to my diet, and eating less junk.

Now that the Christmas season is over, we got some goodies from the US, via one of our returning teammates!  The goodies actually came from my parents and sisters.  A new calendar, some Itunes cards for dear daughter, warm socks, and some candy we can't get here.  We love getting goodies from the states!
